The goal of this training is to teach participants the importance of using Lead-Safe Work Practices and strategies for implementing them. It will also give participants an idea of what a Lead-Safe Program entails and will motivate them to seek professional help for jobs that require abatement, which this training does not cover.
The training will teach the current Lead-Safe Work Practices that are recognized by HUD and the EPA as the most effective means of ensuring that persons performing interim controls, paint stabilization and maintenance on surfaces with lead-based paint are provided with the necessary skills and information to protect themselves, their family members, and nearby occupants from potential health hazards.
Renovators and remodelers, specifically, should attend this training to ensure they comply with the Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Lead-Safe Housing Rule, which applies to all target housing that is federally owned, or that receives federal assistance.
The training day lasts approximately eight hours and is presented in five modules. At the end of the training day a 25 question multiple choice exam is given to those who choose to take it. A score of 75% or better results in the receipt of a certificate indicating the individual has successfully completed the most current HUD/EPA Lead-Safe Work Practices curriculum.
